Do you ever say to yourself, “I’m not good enough”? I’m guessing you do, and your lack of confidence in your own abilities probably impacts your desire to even try, much less excel.

It took a lot of convincing for a friend to talk me into taking art lessons. “I can’t draw!” “I’m not artistic!” “It’ll be a waste of time.” All these excuses seemed so reasonable to me. But my friend persisted, and I gave in.

During my first painting lesson, my instructor walked up behind me and said, “Let me guess, accountant?” That could have been the end for me, because he was right! I am good at accounting, and I was painting much like I would color in a coloring book. But, you know what? His comment said, “Loosen up!” to me. I kept going. I learned – I improved! I now enjoy painting and even get paid for it occasionally. That’s good enough for me!

If you’re telling yourself you’re not good enough, take a step back. Think of times you received instruction or taught yourself how to do something new. If you can ride a bike, drive a car, balance a checkbook, cook a meal, clean a house, operate a computer, play a sport…you have proven you are teachable. Stop comparing yourself to others, and realize YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH!

What does that open up to you as you consider it?
